Srinagar, Oct 22 : Awantipora police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), police spokesman said the two arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat of Renzipora and Waseem Ahmad Wani of Baderwan Pulwama and were arrested while they were travelling in Auto Load Carrier bearing registration number JK03F-8420 from Pulwama to Awantipora.
“Officers were able to recover 15 kgs of Poppy Straw from their possession. Vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized,” police spokesman said.
Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 150 /2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation initiated.
Meanwhile, police appealed to people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police have resolved to deal robustly with drug peddlers, police said.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said—(KNO)
