Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association on Thursday clarified that reports circulating about the alleged assault on a Kashmiri shawl seller in Gurugram, Haryana, are false and misleading.
In a statement issued to news agency JKNS, the Association said it immediately contacted local sources, police officials, and even took up the matter with the Haryana Chief Minister’s Office. “After verification, it was found that no such incident took place in Gurugram. Instead, the incident was reported from the Bhat area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat,” it stated.
The Association added that its ground volunteers were in touch with authorities in Gujarat to ascertain the full details of the incident and to track the victim for possible assistance. “At this stage, it is not even confirmed whether the victim is a Kashmiri,” the statement mentioned.
The Students Association warned that spreading unverified information can cause unnecessary panic among Kashmiri students, shawl sellers, and traders residing outside the Valley. “We appeal to media outlets and social media users to cross-check facts before circulating such sensitive news.”
We are still in the process of ascertaining the facts vis-a-vis whether the incident/ victim involved is Kashmiri or not. Therefore we request you not to pay heed to the rumours until we confirm the details and all the angles involved in and around the case, the statement reads. (JKNS)
