Srinagar, Aug 29 (JKNS): The Indian Army on Friday stepped in to assist civil authorities after the fourth Tawi Bridge at Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu suffered damage due to heavy rains, disrupting traffic movement.
Details available with news agency JKNS that Army engineering teams have been deployed to carry out urgent repair and restoration work on the bridge, which serves as a vital traffic corridor in the city. The structure had developed cracks following days of incessant rainfall.
They added that joint efforts of the Army and local administration are underway on priority to stabilize the damaged portion and ensure safe passage for vehicles.
In the meantime, authorities have enforced traffic diversions to manage congestion until the bridge is fully restored for public use.
Earlier on Wednesday, the road near the fourth Tawi Bridge was washed away by strong water currents after heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Jammu division. (JKNS)
