Department of Youth Services & Sports Celebrates National Sports Day

​YSS Department Organizes Special Events to Mark National Sports Day Across J&K

Srinagar, Aug 29 (JKNS): The Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K celebrated National Sports Day (NSD) on Friday with a series of specially designed activities across the UT.

The day, observed annually on the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, marks a nationwide celebration of sports and its power to foster discipline, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle.

Director General of the Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K Anuradha Gupta in her progressive message has extended warm greetings to all on the occasion and reflected on the significance of the day, dedicated to the ‘Wizard of Hockey’.

While acknowledging that certain planned events were adjusted due to the current weather situation, the Director General noted that celebrations had commenced from August 20.

The message encouraged everyone to dedicate the day to the spirit of sportsmanship and to introspect on their commitment to personal well-being of mind, body, and soul.

The celebrations for National Sports Day are a UT-wide affair, with events organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports spanning from August 20.

The series of events is scheduled to culminate on August 31 with student and youth cycle rallies across J&K, further promoting the message of fitness and vitality among the youth.

In J&K, the commemorations were both symbolic and participatory. In a heartwarming initiative, sports activities were organized for students of an orphanage in Srinagar, bringing joy and the spirit of play to the youngsters.

Adding to the momentum, a three-day coaching training camp was inaugurated at the Synthetic Hockey Turf of Amar Singh College.

Pertinently sensing the importance of Hockey and it’s relevance in shaping sports talent of youth, this modern sports infrastructure was developed by the Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K.

The camp is engaging hundreds of student boys, girls, and hockey enthusiasts, providing them with foundational training in the sport.
The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports in Wazir Bagh, Srinagar, hosted a solemn oath ceremony.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from employees of the Directorate, the Joint Director’s office, and the District Youth Services and Sports Office, Srinagar. Adding a significant presence, personnel from the 14th Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) also joined the pledge.

The event was attended by the District Youth Services and Sports Officer Srinagar Gh Hassan Lone, ACO 14th Battalion Rajiv Tiwari, and various sectional heads of the Directorate.

The proceedings were conducted by the Media & Publicity Coordinator of the Department Azhar Hajini. (JKNS)
