Srinagar, Aug 30 (JKNS): Senior BJP leader and party’s JK spokesman Altaf Thakur has strongly criticised the Omar Abdullah-led government for what he termed as its “complete failure” to devise any flood mitigation plan, despite the Valley once again facing a flood-like situation after just two days of rainfall.
Thakur said the government had not conducted a single mock drill to prepare people and officials for emergencies, adding that the administration had “learnt no lessons” from the devastating 2014 floods.
“The people of Kashmir are living in constant fear every time it rains heavily. The government has failed to create any long-term strategy, nor has it even bothered to hold mock drills, which are essential to tackle such natural calamities,” Thakur remarked.
He urged the authorities to prioritise dredging of the Jhelum, strengthening of embankments, and implementation of a proper disaster preparedness plan, warning that any further negligence could lead to “another tragedy of the scale of 2014.” (JKNS)
