Srinagar, Sep 1 (JKNS): Eight earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or above with 6.3 stronger one struck the Jalalabad area of Afghanistan near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border within the past 10 hours.

Tremors from some of these shocks were also felt in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to seismological reports as per news agency JKNS, the first and strongest quake measured 6.3 on the Richter scale. It was followed by seven additional tremors, all registering magnitudes of 4.0 or higher.

Residents in parts of Jammu and Kashmir reported feeling the tremors, though no immediate casualties or major damage have been reported so far.

Seismologists said the affected region lies along a tectonically active zone in the Hindu Kush, making it prone to frequent seismic activity.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have advised local residents in tremor-prone areas to remain alert, avoid unstable structures, and follow safety precautions in case of aftershocks.

The Jalalabad region has a history of strong earthquakes, and continuous monitoring remains critical for both local and cross-border communities. (JKNS)
