“Education with Equity Must Be Our Goal”: Sakeena Itoo Reviews BGSBU Functioning

Srinagar: Minister for Education, Sakeena Itoo on Monday conducted a comprehensive review of the academic and administrative functioning of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, at a high-level meeting held in the Civil Secretariat here.

Details available with news agency JKNS, The Minister took a detailed assessment of the university’s performance across teaching, research output, infrastructure development, student welfare measures, and other initiatives currently underway.

Minister Sakeena Itoo underlined that BGSBU, being a key higher education hub in the Pir Panjal region, carries a special responsibility in shaping the future of youth through quality education, skill development, and character building. She called upon the authorities to adopt student-centric initiatives, strengthen placement cells, and enhance digital learning infrastructure in line with national and global standards.

While reviewing the progress of ongoing infrastructure works, the Minister directed the administration to ensure their timely completion. She further instructed that new projects should only be initiated if they are essential for the smooth functioning of the University.

She also emphasized that renovation works on hostels must be completed within set deadlines so that students can stay comfortably and without inconvenience.

Reviewing the Human Resource position, the Minister directed officers to engage teaching staff on an academic arrangement basis in courses with maximum student roll until the vacant positions are filled on a regular basis.

Sakeena Itoo stressed that students from remote and marginalized communities should be facilitated with adequate support through scholarships, remedial coaching, and mentorship programs on a regular basis.

The Minister lauded the University administration for securing a record number of admissions in the current session. She assured full government support in addressing institutional requirements and reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening higher education across Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri and Registrar BGSBU, Abhishek Sharma, presented a detailed presentation on the functioning of the University.

The meeting was attended by Vice Chancellor BGSBU, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal; Additional Chief Secretary Higher Education Department (HED), Shantamanu; Deputy Commissioner Rajouri and Registrar BGSBU, Abhishek Sharma; Director RUSA; Special Secretaries of HED; Director Finance; Director Planning HED, and other senior officers of the University and HED, either in person or through video conferencing.
