Budgam, Sep 2 (JKNS): Residents in several parts of Budgam district have expressed strong resentment over the supply of muddy and unsafe drinking water, alleging government failure to ensure clean water despite repeated complaints.
Locals from Khan Sahib and adjoining villages told news agency JKNS that the recent spell of rainfall has worsened the situation, with tap water turning muddy and unfit for consumption, raising the threat of waterborne diseases.
“The government promised every household clean tap water under Jal Jeevan Mission, but the ground reality is disappointing. Despite paying fees, we are forced to consume contaminated water,” a resident said.
People alleged that although filtration plants and storage reservoirs were established under JJM, most of them remain defunct, while several projects are incomplete, leaving families dependent on unsafe sources.
They accused the Jal Shakti Department of neglect and inaction, despite repeated appeals and complaints lodged by locals.
The residents have now urged Deputy Commissioner Budgam and Jal Shakti Minister Javed Ahmad Dar to step in immediately and resolve the crisis before it triggers a health emergency. (JKNS)
