New Delhi, Sep 25 (JKNS): The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday withdrawn the FCRA registration of the Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), citing serious contraventions of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act.
In its detailed order, the Ministry as per news agency JKNS noted discrepancies including cash deposits by founder Sonam Wangchuk, local funds wrongly routed into the FCRA account, and foreign contributions utilised for projects involving sovereignty-related studies. Officials termed this contrary to the law and national interest.
Authorities further observed irregular reporting of transactions, refunding of foreign contributions to an individual, and mismanagement in filing of annual returns. The Ministry said these amounted to violations under Sections 8, 17, 18, and 19 of the FCRA.
With immediate effect, the association’s registration stands cancelled, cutting off its ability to legally accept foreign donations for cultural or educational programmes. (JKNS)
