Weather Improves After Heavy Snow, Rain in J&K Parts

Farmers Advised to Resume Activities from Oct 8; Landslide Risk Persists

Srinagar, Oct 7 (JKNS): Weather across Jammu and Kashmir showed signs of improvement on Tuesday afternoon after widespread rainfall and light to moderate snowfall lashed several parts of the Union Territory over the past 24 hours.

Director Meteorological Department, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, as per news agency JKNS said that Udhampur recorded the highest rainfall at 100.2 mm, followed by Batote with 98.2 mm, Doda 86 mm, Bhaderwah 77 mm, Banihal 75.8 mm, Qazigund 70 mm, Kukernag 68.9 mm, Ramban 68.5 mm, and Pahalgam 52.6 mm.

He said light to moderate snowfall ranging between 2 to 8 inches was reported from several higher reaches including Sinthan Top, Peer Ki Gali, and Sadhna Top.

Giving the forecast for the coming days, Dr. Mukhtar said that light rain and snow were expected at scattered places till forenoon or afternoon today, followed by gradual improvement. “A brief spell of light rain may occur at a few places on October 8, while generally dry weather is expected across J&K from October 9 to 17,” he said.

In its advisory, the department urged farmers to resume agricultural activities from October 8 onwards. It also cautioned about the possibility of landslides and shooting stones at vulnerable locations, particularly along hilly and mountainous roads. (JKNS)
