Kulgam, Oct 17 (JKNS): In a major success against the drug menace, Kulgam Police on Friday arrested two persons, including a most-wanted drug peddler, during a naka checking operation in the Yaripora area of Kulgam district.

An official told news agency JKNS that the arrests were made at Kanjikulla Crossing when a motorcycle bearing registration number JK13J-7576 was intercepted for checking.

“During naka checking at Kanjikulla Crossing, a motorcycle (JK13J-7576) driven by Faizan Ahmad Dar, son of Nafees Ahmad Dar, resident of Brazloo, with Sheeraz Ahmad Lone alias Sher Khan, son of Mohammad Ramzan Lone, resident of Tungdanoo, as pillion rider, was intercepted,” the official said.

Sheeraz Ahmad Lone alias Sher Khan was a notorious and habitual offender wanted in several previous cases, the official added.

“Upon checking, around 6 grams of a heroin-like substance and cash amounting to ₹15,720 were recovered from both individuals,” the official said.

Police have registered a case under FIR No. 66/2025 at Police Station Yaripora under Sections 8, 21, and 29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to identify other associates of the arrested individuals and dismantle their network.

Meanwhile, locals have appreciated the timely action of the police, calling it a strong step toward curbing drug trafficking in the area and ensuring a safer community. (JKNS)
