Srinagar, Oct 23 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) on Thursday announced that all six of its legislators will vote for the National Conference (NC) candidates in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, describing the decision as a moral stance to “safeguard secular values and block BJP’s entry.”
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Karra as per news agency JKNS said, the final call was made following two rounds of internal consultations held over the past two days in coordination with the party’s high command.
“As a responsible secular party, we have chosen principle over political convenience,” Karra said. “Despite grievances with the NC over alliance management, we have decided to join hands for the larger cause of protecting Jammu and Kashmir’s identity and democratic spirit.”
He expressed confidence that the National Conference would “keep its flock together against temptations and manipulations,” reiterating Congress’s commitment to oppose the BJP’s ideological influence.
“All our six MLAs have endorsed the decision, and a formal whip has been issued to vote in favour of NC candidates,” Karra stated.
The JKPCC chief also lauded NC candidate Shammi Oberoi for his constructive engagement during the discussions. “He brought clarity and understanding between both parties,” Karra noted.
He said that formal letters outlining Congress’s position and expectations would soon be sent to NC President Dr. Farooq Abdullah. (JKNS)
