Srinagar, Oct 27 (JKNS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Waheed Para on Monday raised serious concern in the Assembly over what he described as the “systematic weakening” of elected representatives’ authority, referencing the PSA detention of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik.
According to news agency Jammu Kashmir News Service (JKNS), Para said that detaining an elected lawmaker under PSA “strikes at the very heart of democracy” and questioned the government’s intent behind such actions.
Addressing the reservation issue, he stated that while PDP is not opposed to the policy, its implementation must reflect equality and justice. “Those very youth who once held stones or guns now participate in elections, yet there’s still no improvement in their lives,” he said.
Para also cautioned the ruling benches against the arbitrary use of PSA. “Today it’s used against us, but once your government in Delhi ends, it will be used against you too. We must collectively work to end this misuse,” he added. (JKNS)
