J&K Shines at 69th SGFI Nationals: Jiya Manhas & Shaurya Clinch Top Honours in Wushu

Srinagar, Oct 31 (JKNS): The curtain came down on the 69th National School Games in Wushu (Under-17 Category) with an action-packed finale held today at the Indoor Sports Complex, Wazirbagh Srinagar.

The event, organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports Jammu & Kashmir, witnessed electrifying performances by young athletes from across the country, marking the culmination of days of intense competition, discipline, and sportsmanship.

In the Girls Section, under the 45 kg weight category, Anushka Dattatraya Jain from Maharashtra clinched the Gold medal, while Gayatri Pooniya from Rajasthan secured the Silver. In the 48 kg category, Jiya Manhas representing Jammu & Kashmir bagged the Gold medal, with Aditi Rana from Chandigarh finishing with Silver.

In the 52 kg weight category, Bhaumika from Chandigarh emerged victorious to claim Gold, whereas Javeriya Salimodin Sheikh from Maharashtra settled for Silver.

In the 56 kg category, Sakshi Pushpakar from Uttar Pradesh displayed fine form to win Gold, followed by Nojal from Rajasthan who took the Silver.

Under the 60 kg category, Himani from Rajasthan clinched the Gold medal, while Sharwari Rameshwar Rathod from Maharashtra earned the Silver. In the 65 kg category, Almas Ali Khan from Rajasthan bagged the Gold, and Rutba Shabir from Jammu & Kashmir won the Silver. Finally, in the 70 kg weight category, Riya Mishra from Rajasthan captured the Gold medal, with Harpreet Kaur from Punjab securing the Silver.

In the Boys Section, under the 45 kg weight category, Gulshan Kumar from Delhi secured the Gold medal, while Pankaj Nayan from Bihar claimed the Silver.
In the 48 kg category, Nikhil from Delhi bagged the Gold, and Syed Mursaleen earned the Silver.

Under the 52 kg weight category, Shaurya from Uttar Pradesh emerged victorious with the Gold medal, while Kapish Bharat Rakwal from Jammu & Kashmir took the Silver. In the 56 kg category, Mayank Roza from Uttar Pradesh displayed an outstanding performance to win Gold, followed by Mahesh from Punjab who secured the Silver.

In the 60 kg weight category, Anshul Bhati from Uttar Pradesh claimed the Gold medal, whereas Ashish Dahiya from Delhi settled for the Silver. In the 65 kg category, Suryansh Singh representing Jammu & Kashmir clinched the Gold, while Divyanshu Singh Kathait from Maharashtra earned the Silver.

In the 70 kg category, Mohd Arhaan Parray from Jammu & Kashmir grabbed the Gold medal, with Raj Kumar from Bihar taking home the Silver. In the 75 kg category, Anshuman from Rajasthan emerged as the Gold medalist, followed by Jasmeet Bhatia from Punjab who claimed the Silver.

Finally, in the 80 kg weight category, Mohd Haseeb Sheikh from Jammu & Kashmir secured the Gold medal, while Nikhil Khatri from Delhi finished with the Silver.

In the Girls’ section, the bronze medals were secured by Aarya from Chandigarh and Rishika from Delhi in the 45 kg weight category, Anandi from Bihar and Utkarsha from Madhya Pradesh in the 48 kg category, Heisnam from Manipur and Shreya from Uttar Pradesh in the 52 kg category, Riya from DCMC and Koijam from Manipur in the 56 kg category, Kunal from Chandigarh and Laishram Abenao from Manipur in the 60 kg category, Sejal from Maharashtra and Taniya from West Bengal in the 65 kg category, while Samruddhi from Maharashtra and Kangabam Linda from Manipur claimed the bronze in the 70 kg category.

In the Boys’ section, bronze medals were bagged by Laithangbam from Manipur and Tarun from Punjab in the 45 kg weight category, Yumring from Arunachal Pradesh and Asem from Manipur in the 48 kg category, Victor from Manipur and Devansh from Rajasthan in the 52 kg category, Manish from Rajasthan and Dhruv from Vidyabharti in the 56 kg category, Sanjay from Madhya Pradesh and Vivek from Punjab in the 60 kg category, Rustam from Bihar and Prince Nayak from Jharkhand in the 65 kg category, Izazul from Punjab and Kushshah from Uttar Pradesh in the 70 kg category, Sajad from Jammu & Kashmir and Parth Hanumant from Maharashtra in the 75 kg category, and Udit from Chandigarh along with Konsam from Manipur in the 80 kg weight category.

It is importantly pertinent to mention here that Jammu & Kashmir Girl Star Jiya Manhas was declared as Best Player of Wushu among girls and Shaurya from UttarPradesh was declared among Boys Category.

The finals witnessed powerful techniques, tactical bouts, and a true spirit of sportsmanship. The players displayed remarkable agility, control, and fighting spirit, earning appreciation from spectators and technical officials alike.

More than 40 teams representing different states and union territories participated in the championship, which showcased the exceptional growth of Wushu as one of India’s most promising martial arts among school athletes.

The event also reflected the commitment of the Directorate of YSS towards nurturing young talent and promoting national-level sports culture in J&K.

The accommodation and hospitality for all participating contingents were meticulously arranged at the Government College of Physical Education, Ganderbal, ensuring a comfortable stay for athletes, coaches, and team officials throughout the championship.

Sharing the views on the occasion, officials from the organizing committee, Coaches, Mangers, Wushu Players/ Athletes expressed satisfaction over the smooth and successful conduct of the event.

They lauded the outstanding display of skills, determination, and discipline demonstrated by the young Wushu players, both boys and girls, during the finals.

The successful conduct of the 69th National School Games in Wushu has once again reinforced Jammu & Kashmir’s capability to host major national-level sports events with excellence and enthusiasm.

The Directorate of Youth Services & Sports, J&K, extended heartfelt congratulations to all medal winners and participants for their exemplary performances and wished them greater success in their future sporting journeys. (JKNS)
