Budgam, Nov 4 (JKNS): The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) Nodal Officer in Budgam has served a Show Cause Notice to Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi for allegedly breaching election guidelines during his campaign for the 27-Budgam Assembly bye-election.
As per news agency JKNS, the PDP candidate reportedly organised late-night campaign events and rallies on November 1 and November 3 without prior approval from the competent authorities. The notice follows multiple complaints from rival candidates and reports submitted by the Flying Squad Team (FST) magistrates, confirming that unauthorised gatherings took place during restricted hours.
The MCC Nodal Officer stated that such violations compromise fair electoral practices and disturb the level playing field among candidates. The notice mentions that videos of the alleged rallies were circulated on social media, serving as evidence of the breach.
Mehdi has been asked to respond within 24 hours explaining his position on the alleged violation. Authorities have warned that any further breach of the Model Code of Conduct will lead to strict action as per the Election Commission’s directions and relevant laws. (JKNS)
