New Delhi, Nov 10 (JKNS): A sudden explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening triggered a fire that engulfed a vehicle and damaged several others, officials said. The blast occurred around 6:52 pm, causing chaos in the busy area as emergency teams rushed to the spot.

According to news agency JKNS, the Delhi Fire Department said it received an alert moments after the explosion, following which seven fire tenders were dispatched to control the flames and secure the surrounding stretch.

Soon after the incident, personnel from Delhi Police Special Cell, FSL, NIA, and NSG reached the location to examine the nature and origin of the blast. Forensic teams are conducting a detailed assessment, and officials said the cause of the explosion is still being verified.

Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, speaking to reporters, confirmed that both fatalities and injuries have been reported. He said the blast took place in a slow-moving vehicle approaching the traffic signal, and the fire subsequently spread to other vehicles nearby.
“All agencies are on the ground. The investigation is underway, and the Home Minister is being regularly briefed,” he said.

Meanwhile, quoting Medical Superintendent of LNJP Hospital news wire ANI reported as per JKNS, that fifteen victims of the blast were brought to the hospital.

“Eight people were already dead when they arrived. Three are in critical condition, and one is stable,” the official said, adding that medical teams are continuing emergency treatment for the injured.

Authorities said more details will be shared once preliminary forensic findings are completed. (JKNS)
