Sopore, Nov 15 (JKNS): The Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) organised a one-day seminar on Prof. Mishal Sultanpuri, a renowned Kashmiri poet and writer, at the Government Degree College Sopore on 15th of November, 2025.
The event aimed to commemorate and critically explore the literary contributions of Prof. Sultanpuri, whose creative legacy has significantly enriched Kashmiri literature.
The seminar comprised an inaugural session followed by two business sessions, each dedicated to different aspects of the life and works of the celebrated writer.
The inaugural session was presided over by Dr. Rafiq Masoodi. The presidium also included Dr. Bahar Ahmad, son of the late Prof. Mishal Sultanpuri; Prof. Bashir Ahmad, Principal, GDC Sopore; Jawaid Iqbal, Editor Kashmiri, JKAACL, Dr. Gulzar ahmad Rather, Assistant Editor kashmiri JKAACL and noted scholar Shahid Delnavi.
At the outset, Jawaid Iqbal, Editor Kashmiri, JKAACL, welcomed the dignitaries and underlined the objectives of the seminar, highlighting the need to revisit and preserve the intellectual legacy of Prof. Sultanpuri.
Prof. Bashir Ahmad, Principal GDC Sopore, also addressed the gathering, shedding light on the literary and academic relevance of Prof. Sultanpuri’s works and their enduring impact on Kashmiri studies.
The keynote address was delivered by Shahid Delnavi, who presented a comprehensive overview of Prof. Sultanpuri’s poetic vision and literary contributions.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Izhar-ul-Haq Wani, Assistant Professor, Department of Kashmiri, GDC Sopore.
The first session was presided over by veteran scholar Ranjoor Tilgami. Four papers were presented by, Zameer Ansari, Dr. Riyaz-ul-Hassan, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Haleem annd Ranjoor Tilgami. The papers examined the linguistic beauty, thematic depth, and stylistic uniqueness of Prof. Sultanpuri’s creative works.
The second session was presided over by noted writer Shabir Ahmad Shabir. Five papers were presented by Abdul Khaliq Shams, Rashid Kanispori, Shahbaaz Hakbari and Shabir Ahmad Shabir and izhar ul haq wani.
This session focused on critical evaluations of Prof. Sultanpuri’s literary legacy and his influence on contemporary Kashmiri literature.
The proceedings of the seminar were conducted by Jawaid Iqbal and Dr. Gulzar Ahmad Rather, ensuring the smooth and orderly conduct of the day-long programme. (JKNS)
