Verinag Man Held After Police Recover Over 5 Kg of Cannabis From Tin Shed

Srinagar, Nov 19 (JKNS): Police have arrested a man from Verinag after recovering more than 5 kilograms of cannabis-like substance from a tin shed near his residence following specific information received by Police Post Verinag.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, Police Post Verinag received credible information that one individual, Mukhtar Ahmad Haji son of Gh. Rasool Haji resident of Bonagund Verinag, had concealed cannabis-like substance in a tin shed near his residence. Acting swiftly on this input, a case FIR No. 110/2025 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Dooru, and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation, a police team accompanied by the Executive Magistrate Dooru, Lambardar, and the concerned Chowkidar conducted a thorough search of the suspected tin shed, it reads.

Statement reads, During the search, the team recovered one nylon bag containing cannabis leaves with seeds and top-like material, in a half-dried and half-crushed form. The recovered contraband was weighed and found to be 5 kg 180 grams.

The seized substance was properly sealed on the spot in presence of the Executive Magistrate. The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway to identify other individuals involved and to dismantle the supply chain, it reads. (JKNS)
