Kashmir Shivers Again as Temperatures Dip Sharply; Zojila at -16°C, Shopian Coldest in Valley

Srinagar, Nov 25 (JKNS): The cold wave tightened its hold over Jammu & Kashmir on Monday night, with night temperatures remaining well below the freezing mark at most places across the Valley.

According to figures compiled by Kashmir Weather, shared with news agency JKNS, Srinagar recorded a minimum of -3.1°C, while Shopian emerged as the coldest inhabited pocket in Kashmir at -5.4°C, followed by Pulwama at -5.0°C and Pampore at -4.5°C. Pahalgam dropped to -4.4°C and the Srinagar Airport belt settled at -4.2°C.

In north Kashmir, Baramulla touched -4.3°C, Rafiabad -4.1°C, Bandipora and Sonamarg -3.8°C, while Kupwara recorded -3.4°C. Qazigund logged -3.0°C, with Kokernag comparatively warmer at -0.4°C. The Zojila axis remained the coldest location, plunging to a severe -16.0°C.

Kulgam recorded -1.9°C, while there was no temperature report from Anantnag for the day.

In the Jammu belt, temperatures stayed in the single digits and above freezing — Jammu city noted 9.8°C, Katra 9.1°C, and Jammu Airport 9.6°C. Higher reaches saw a sharper dip, with Banihal at -0.5°C and Bhaderwah at 0.4°C.

The Ladakh region remained under intense cold, with Leh at -8.5°C, Kargil at -8.8°C, and Nubra at -6.6°C. (JKNS)
