Srinagar, Nov 26 (JKNS): The intense cold wave sweeping across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh tightened further last night, with temperatures falling below freezing at most places in the Valley and the higher reaches experiencing severe frost.
As per the latest data issued by Kashmir Weather and reported by JK News Service (JKNS), Srinagar recorded its coldest night of the season at -3.9°C. Shopian once again topped the list of coldest locations in the plains, plummeting to -6.2°C.
Several other stations across Kashmir also witnessed harsh sub-zero temperatures. Pulwama dropped to -5.8°C, Baramulla -5.9°C, Pampore and Anantnag -5.5°C, and Awantipora -5.0°C. The Srinagar Airport area settled at -4.0°C.
In north and central Kashmir, Budgam and Bandipora recorded -4.2°C, Kupwara -4.0°C, Ganderbal -2.8°C, Sonamarg -3.1°C, while Qazigund touched -3.4°C.
Tourist spots were no exception Pahalgam dipped to -4.6°C, Kokernag remained slightly less cold at -1.4°C, and Zethan Rafiabad logged -5.0°C.
The harshest conditions, however, persisted at Zojila Pass, which froze at an extreme -16.0°C.
In south Kashmir, Kulgam recorded -2.2°C, while Gulmarg stood at 0.0°C.
Across the Jammu region, plains continued to experience relatively mild nights with Jammu city at 8.8°C, Katra 8.5°C, Kathua 8.0°C, and Jammu Airport 8.6°C. Higher areas remained colder, including Banihal -0.7°C, Bhaderwah 0.5°C, Batote 4.6°C, Ramban 4.3°C, Rajouri 2.6°C, Kishtwar 4.0°C, Reasi 7.4°C, Udhampur 6.0°C, and Samba 3.9°C.
In Ladakh, the cold wave remained unrelenting with Leh at -8.2°C, Kargil -9.0°C, and Nubra -6.8°C continuing to witness intense freezing conditions.(JKNS)
