Srinagar, Nov 28 (JKNS): Bringing immense pride to Jammu and Kashmir, two youth from South Kashmir Sajad Ahmed Bhat and Abdul Rouaf Wani have been conferred the prestigious ‘Braveheart Indians of the Year 2025’ title for their remarkable courage as first responders during the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this year.
As per news agency JKNS, Sajad and Rouaf were among the earliest civilians to reach the site of the attack, rushing fearlessly through chaos and gunfire to rescue the wounded and support the security forces. Their prompt action, despite grave personal risk, has been widely hailed across the country.
The honour was presented at the Indian of the Year Awards 2025, organised by the Network18 Group, which celebrates exceptional individuals who have made impactful contributions to society. The ‘Braveheart’ category recognises citizens who display extraordinary bravery in critical situations a recognition the Kashmiri duo earned through sheer grit and humanity.
After receiving the award, the two expressed gratitude and dedicated the recognition to the spirit of the people of Kashmir. “This honour belongs to every Kashmiri who stands firm in the face of adversity,” they said.
Residents from Pahalgam and neighbouring areas have warmly welcomed the accolade, calling the pair’s recognition a proud moment for the entire region. Witnesses of the incident recalled their courage, saying the youth stepped forward when others were paralyzed by fear.
The award not only celebrates their individual bravery but also highlights the resilience and courage embedded deeply within the people of Kashmir. (JKNS)
