Srinagar, Nov 29 (JKNS): Cold wave conditions tightened their grip over Kashmir on Friday night as minimum temperatures slipped further below freezing at several stations, according to figures shared by independent weather platform Kashmir Weather.

The persistent fall in night temperatures indicates that winter chill is deepening across the region, with many places recording significant dips compared to previous days.

As per data accessed by news agency JKNS, most parts of the Valley remained in the sub-zero range.

Srinagar registered –3.1°C, while Qazigund recorded –3.4°C. Pahalgam emerged as one of the coldest locations at –5.2°C, followed by Kupwara at –4.9°C. Pampore froze at –6.0°C, and Awantipora recorded –5.0°C, reflecting a pronounced drop in temperatures across South and Central Kashmir.

Other stations showed similar freezing conditions, with Kokernag at –1.6°C, Gulmarg at –1.3°C, and the Srinagar Airport area at –5.2°C.
In north Kashmir, Zethan Rafiabad touched –5.6°C, while the harshest conditions persisted at the high-altitude Zojila Pass, which recorded an extreme –16.0°C.

Meanwhile, the Jammu region remained comparatively warmer, staying mostly above the freezing point.

Jammu recorded 9.4°C, Katra settled at 8.6°C, and Kathua noted 7.8°C.
Colder conditions were observed in the upper belts, with Banihal at –0.3°C, Bhaderwah at 0.4°C, Udhampur at 4.0°C, Rajouri at 1.2°C, and Batote at 4.4°C.

In the Ladakh region, the cold intensified further.

Leh dropped to –9.0°C, Kargil plunged to –10.2°C, and Nubra Valley hovered at a frigid –8.5°C, marking one of the season’s coldest nights so far. (JKNS)
