Srinagar, Dec 03 (JKNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said the government has carried out a detailed and thorough exercise to restructure Jammu and Kashmir’s reservation policy in line with the assurances given to the public.

Speaking to reporters after chairing a cabinet meeting in Jammu, CM Omar Abdullah, as per news agency JKNS, said the cabinet made every effort to ensure that the changes are fair and do not disadvantage any section of society.

“We have worked to rationalize the reservation policy as promised, while also ensuring that no group feels discriminated against,” the Chief Minister said.

Without naming anyone, Omar criticized those who had earlier accused the government of failing to act but are now opposing the revised framework. “Those who claimed we did nothing are today threatening agitation. It is always easy to politicize such matters,” he remarked.

The Chief Minister said the government’s review of the policy was exhaustive and repeated more than once. “This subject has come before the cabinet three or four times. The cabinet sub-committee spent nearly six months studying every aspect. We could not have gone deeper than this,” he said.

Omar, however, refrained from revealing the final outcome of the cabinet deliberations. “The matter will now be sent to the Lieutenant Governor. At this stage, it would not be appropriate for me to disclose further details,” he added. (JKNS)
