Srinagar, Dec 6 (JKNS): A renewed spell of flight disruptions struck Srinagar International Airport on Saturday as 16 flights were cancelled and 8 were delayed, reviving the chaos that already troubled passengers throughout the previous day.

An airport official told news agency JKNS that Srinagar Airport had 64 scheduled flight movements for today, totalling 32 arrivals and 32 departures.

He said, “by 12:00 PM, a total of 16 flights had been cancelled, while 8 flights were delayed. “Most of them belonging to IndiGo Airlines, making it the most affected carrier of the day.” The official further added, SpiceJet also recorded 2 cancellations for today.

Notably, the sudden wave of cancellations left passengers visibly distressed. Many travellers were flying for urgent reasons such as medical treatments, weddings, business meetings, examinations and family emergencies. With no timely alternatives available, the cancellations caused severe emotional strain.

“Flights were first showing as on time and then suddenly the cancellations started one after another. Patients, elderly people and families with small children were left helplessly waiting with no guidance at all,” said a passenger who had been at the airport since early morning.

Officials also noted that Friday’s turmoil followed an already left severe disruption where, 41 flights were cancelled across Jammu & Kashmir. “Out of these, 30 flights were cancelled at Srinagar Airport and 11 at Jammu Airport,” he said.

The ongoing cancellations and delays stem from IndiGo’s internal compliance measures following new safety directives issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).—(JKNS)
