Srinagar, Dec 11 (JKNS): The Jammu & Kashmir Government has sought an immediate probe after MLA Tanvir Sadiq raised alarm over reports alleging the presence of carcinogenic and toxic drug residues in eggs being sold in the market.

According to an official communication issued by the Personal Section of the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports and ARI & Trainings, the matter was brought to the Minister’s notice through Sadiq’s post on X.

As per news agency JKNS, The letter states that the Honourable Minister has taken note of the MLA’s concerns regarding “adulterated eggs being sold in the market,” which reportedly contain carcinogenic and toxic ingredients, posing a major health risk to the public.

“In view of the above, you are requested to urgently examine and verify the issue and submit a detailed report within two days for the kind perusal of the Hon’ble Minister,” the communication reads.
The letter is signed by the Personal Assistant to the Hon’ble Minister.

Earlier, as per JKNS, MLA Tanvir Sadiq posted on X expressing deep concern over laboratory findings allegedly detecting nitrofuran and nitroimidazole residues in eggs both drugs strictly banned in food-producing animals due to their carcinogenic and toxic effects.

Sadiq highlighted that the issue is especially alarming because eggs are widely consumed by children, elderly citizens, and patients, with doctors often recommending them as a vital protein source.

He urged the Hon’ble Health Minister Sakina Itoo and the Hon’ble Food & Supplies Minister Satish Sharma to immediately conduct residue testing across markets, trace the source of contamination, and take strict action, stating that “there can be no compromise on public safety.”

Sadiq also tagged @CM_JnK, noting that the matter must be treated with “utmost urgency.”

A line in his post further mentioned, “Cancer-Causing Eggs by Eggoz? The Lab Report That Sparked a Nationwide Food Safety Panic.”

Authorities are expected to initiate verification and sampling soon, with the government assuring swift action once findings are confirmed. (JKNS)
