Srinagar, Dec 17 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday urged the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to enforce strict surveillance and regulatory action against unregistered NGOs and trusts operating in the Union Territory, alleging that several such organisations are involved in dubious financial dealings and may be aiding anti-national elements under the cover of social work.

As per news agency JKNS, BJP J&K requested MHA to act strict on unregistered non-governmental organisations (NGO’s) operating acrossJammu and Kashmir, alleging that several such entities are involved in suspicious financial transactions with anti-national elements.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarter in Srinagar, BJP Senior Leader and State Spokesperson Altaf Thakur emphasised the need for comprehensive monitoring of both registered and unregistered organisations operating in the region. Central and UT government must keep a watchful eye on the financial transactions and underlying motives of these organisations. The security and integrity of our nation cannot be compromised, Thakur stated.

Altaf Thakur was joined by Er. Sahil Bashir State Spokesperson JK and Adv. Sajid Yousuf Shah State Co-Media Incharge J&K. BJP leadership expressed serious concerns about the activities of certain NGOs and trusts that they claim are operating under the guise of social welfare while allegedly channeling funds to elements working against national interests.

Speaking to media personnel, Altaf Thakur elaborated on the party’s concerns, These organisations should be kept under strict vigilance to effectively curb anti-national activities across Jammu and Kashmir. There are individuals operating behind the facade of humanitarian work who are covertly supporting anti-national and terror network through various means. We cannot and will not allow this to happen to disturb the peace in J&K.

BJP JK State spokesperson Er. Sahil Bashir stressed that the party’s demand comes at a crucial time when significant efforts are being made to restore and maintain peace in the Kashmir Valley and across the country. BJP has been working tirelessly, day and night, to promote peace and development in the Valley. We cannot allow vested interests, whether organisations or individuals, to undermine our collective efforts toward stability and progress, Er. Sahil asserted.

The party has specifically called upon the MHA and concerned security agencies to establish a robust monitoring mechanism to track the financial operations of NGOs operating in the region. This includes scrutinising their funding sources, expenditure patterns and ground activities to ensure they align with stated objectives and do not pose any threat to national security.

Adv Sajid Yousuf Shah, Media Incharge BJP, highlighted the importance of transparency in NGO operations. While we recognise the valuable contribution of genuine civil society organisations in development and Social work, it is equally important to ensure that no entity misuses the NGO framework for activities detrimental to the nation’s interests, he said.

The BJP’s demand reflects growing concerns about the regulatory oversight of NGOs in sensitive regions. (JKNS)
