Srinagar, Dec 19 (JKNS): Asserting that normalcy has fully returned to Jammu and Kashmir, President of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI), Ajeet Bajaj, on Friday described the Union Territory as the undisputed adventure tourism capital of India, expressing confidence in its safety, hospitality and immense potential.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar after the successful conclusion of ATOAI’s 17th Annual Convention, Bajaj, as per news agency JKNS, said the three-day event themed “Safe, Sustainable and Resilient Adventure Tourism” witnessed enthusiastic participation from tour operators across the country.

“Kashmir welcomed us with open arms. Everything here is normal and functioning smoothly. We experienced it first-hand and feel completely confident,” Bajaj said, adding that ATOAI would actively collaborate with the J&K government and local stakeholders to promote the Valley as a global adventure destination.

He said delegates visited key tourist hubs including Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sonmarg and returned highly impressed. “The landscape, infrastructure, hospitality and sense of security make Jammu and Kashmir unparalleled for adventure tourism,” he remarked.

Highlighting the business outreach, Bajaj said structured B2B meetings were held between national adventure operators and local stakeholders. “Our aim is to ensure direct partnerships so that local operators gain maximum benefit from domestic and international tourism flow,” he said.

Bajaj also acknowledged the role of security forces in restoring confidence. “We are proud of the men and women in uniform. Their dedication has ensured peace and safety, making it possible for tourism to flourish again,” he said.

An ATOAI delegate, who has been visiting Kashmir for over three decades, echoed similar sentiments. “I have travelled extensively, but nowhere have I felt more secure or welcomed. Kashmir’s warmth and hospitality are exceptional,” he said, expressing optimism that 2026 would be a landmark year for tourism in the region.

Calling for a phased reopening of all adventure zones, Bajaj said conditions were steadily improving. “The people are welcoming, the environment is peaceful and the terrain is world-class. Kashmir is fully ready to reclaim its place on the global adventure tourism map,” he added. —(JKNS)
