Kokernag, Dec 20 (JKNS): In view of the weather forecast predicting possible snowfall in the higher reaches, the Office of the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag has issued a road and traffic advisory in the interest of public safety.

According to the advisory as per news agency JKNS, traffic movement on the Daksum-Sinthan Top-Chhatroo Road and the Gowran–-Margan Top-Warwan Road is likely to be affected due to snowfall, icy road conditions and poor visibility.

The administration has advised the general public to avoid non-essential travel on these routes during snowfall and immediately thereafter. Travel on these roads should be undertaken only after official confirmation of road clearance by the concerned Road Clearance Agencies or the district administration.

It has further been directed that vehicles travelling on these routes must be equipped with anti-skid or snow chains and other essential winter safety gear to prevent accidents and ensure safe movement.

As per the advisory, police authorities have been instructed to close the roads for vehicular traffic immediately after snowfall if the roads are found unfit for movement, based on assessments by NHIDCL for the Sinthan route and PMGSY for the Margan route. Traffic will be restored only after clearance is granted and the roads are declared safe.

The administration has appealed to the public to cooperate fully with officials and field staff to facilitate snow clearance operations and to ensure uninterrupted movement of emergency services.

For emergencies and updates regarding road clearance, the public can contact the following officials: Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh (NHIDCL – 7889734223), Er. Ashiq Hussain (PMGSY – 7006121583), SI Raj Kumar (Police Station Larnoo – 9858720590), and Gowhar Ahmad Seh (SDM Office – 7889423730).

The advisory has been issued in public interest by Prince Kumar, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Kokernag, dated December 20, 2025. —(JKNS)
