Srinagar, Dec 21 (JKNS): The two-day Swadeshi Mela at Polo View, Srinagar, concluded on Sunday, reinforcing the push towards strengthening indigenous industries and empowering local communities in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per news agency JKNS, the closing ceremony was attended by BJP General Secretary (Organization), J&K, Ashok Koul, along with General Secretary Anwar Khan and other senior party leaders.
The Swadeshi Mela, organised on December 20 and 21, witnessed enthusiastic participation from local artisans, traders and citizens. The event was also observed as International Feran Day, with participants proudly donning and showcasing the traditional Kashmiri Feran.
Addressing the gathering, Ashok Koul said the Swadeshi Mela was more than just an exhibition, describing it as a movement aimed at rebuilding and strengthening the local economy of Jammu and Kashmir.
He stressed that promoting indigenous products, traditional skills and local entrepreneurship is essential for sustainable economic growth and employment generation.
“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the resolve of Aatmanirbhar Bharat has taken shape across the country.
Initiatives like the Swadeshi Mela translate this vision into action by directly supporting local artisans, craftsmen, farmers and small entrepreneurs,” Koul said, adding that a strong local economy is the backbone of a strong nation.
He further said the mela provided a vibrant platform to showcase Kashmiri handicrafts, Pashmina products, carpets, silver jewellery, dry fruits, spices, traditional pherans, local cuisine and folk music, helping preserve cultural heritage while creating economic opportunities.
Anwar Khan, in his address, said the overwhelming public response reflected growing awareness and acceptance of locally made products. He noted that supporting indigenous industries not only strengthens the economy but also instills pride in local culture and traditions.
The leaders said such initiatives would play a vital role in ensuring inclusive growth, financial self-reliance and dignified livelihoods for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. —(JKNS)
