Karnah, Dec 21 (JKNS): As predicted by the Meteorological Department, several parts of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall and rain on Sunday, bringing relief after a prolonged dry spell across the region.
In particular, the strategic Sadhna Top which connects the Karnah valley with Kupwara district recorded around eight inches of snowfall, leading to the temporary closure of the route for all vehicular movement.
The heavy snow and poor visibility made travel unsafe, prompting authorities to suspend traffic until clearance operations are completed.
Administrative officials have established control rooms to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of passengers and local residents.
Snow clearance machines and emergency teams from the Border Roads Organization (BRO) have been deployed to remove accumulated snow and restore connectivity as soon as conditions improve.
The latest spell of precipitation has ended weeks of unusually dry weather that had led to rising incidents of forest fires in several hilly regions.
Locals expressed happiness over the change in weather, describing the snowfall and rain as “a blessing” for the environment, agriculture, and water resources of the Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, authorities have advised travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys towards higher reaches and to strictly follow weather and traffic advisories issued by the district administration. With the Sadhna Top covered in a blanket of snow, the onset of winter in the valley has truly begun turning the landscape serene once again while also reminding residents of nature’s power and beauty.
