Sonamarg Coldest at -7.3°C, Gulmarg Shivers at -5.4°C as Chill Tightens Grip Across Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 25 (JKNS): Cold conditions continued to prevail across Kashmir and Ladakh as most parts recorded sub-zero minimum temperatures, while the Jammu region experienced comparatively milder weather.

As per data compiled by independent weather channel Kashmir Weather as per news agency JKNS, , Srinagar witnessed a minimum temperature of minus 2.2°C. Tourist destinations and higher reaches remained colder, with Gulmarg recording minus 5.4°C and Pahalgam minus 4.4°C. Sonamarg stood out as one of the coldest places in the Valley at minus 7.3°C.

Several other areas including Pulwama (-3.8°C), Shopian (-4.0°C), Pampore (-2.5°C) and Srinagar Airport (-3.4°C) also remained below the freezing point, indicating the persistence of harsh winter conditions.

In contrast, the Jammu region saw relatively moderate temperatures. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 8.1°C, while Katra logged 8.4°C. However, colder conditions were reported from higher altitude areas such as Bhaderwah, which recorded 0.3°C, Rajouri 2.6°C and Samba 2.9°C. Udhampur, Ramban and Banihal also experienced chilly but above-freezing temperatures.

Ladakh continued to remain in the grip of severe cold, with Leh recording a bone-chilling minus 10.2°C, Kargil minus 9.8°C and Nubra Valley minus 8.3°C. Authorities have advised people, particularly in colder regions, to remain cautious and take adequate measures as cold wave conditions are likely to persist. (JKNS)
