Srinagar, Dec 31 (JKNS): Cold weather conditions prevailed across Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday as several parts of the Kashmir region recorded near-freezing and sub-zero minimum temperatures, while Ladakh continued to witness severe cold.
According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather as per news agency JKNS, In the Kashmir region, Gulmarg emerged as the coldest place with a low of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius, followed by Shopian at minus 1.1 degrees Celsius and Pulwama at minus 0.2 degrees Celsius.
Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 2.3 degrees Celsius, while the city’s airport registered 0.6 degrees Celsius. Other places including Qazigund and Kokernag recorded 1.4 degrees Celsius each, Kupwara 1.6 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam 1.8 degrees Celsius, and Awantipora 0.4 degrees Celsius. Baramulla and Bandipora recorded relatively higher minimums of 2.8 and 2.6 degrees Celsius respectively, while Pampore logged 3.5 degrees Celsius.
Budgam saw a low of 1.2 degrees Celsius, Anantnag 0.7 degrees Celsius, Ganderbal 1.8 degrees Celsius and Zethan Rafiabad 0.6 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures for Kulgam, Sonamarg and Poonch were not available.
In the Jammu region, temperatures remained comparatively higher, with Jammu city recording a minimum of 10.4 degrees Celsius, while Jammu Airport and Katra both logged 10.0 degrees Celsius. Reasi recorded the highest minimum at 10.8 degrees Celsius.
Other places included Banihal at 5.9 degrees Celsius, Batote 8.8 degrees Celsius, Bhaderwah 4.0 degrees Celsius, Kathua 9.2 degrees Celsius, Udhampur 8.0 degrees Celsius, Ramban 9.4 degrees Celsius, Samba 6.7 degrees Celsius, Rajouri 7.0 degrees Celsius, Kishtwar 9.6 degrees Celsius and Doda 9.9 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Ladakh continued to reel under intense cold conditions, with Leh recording a minimum temperature of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has advised residents, especially in higher reaches, to take precautions as cold conditions are likely to persist in the coming days. (JKNS)
