South Kashmir: Encounter breaks out in Shopian

Srinagar, November 10: A gunfight raged between militants and government forces in Katpora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

Reports reaching that a joint team of Police, army’s 34RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Katopra.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off an gunfight.

A senior Police officer told that after intial exchange of firing between militants and security forces, firing has been stopped as Senior officers of police, Army and family members of militants are trying to persuade the hiding militants to surrender.
