Srinagar, Jan 8 (JKNS): Police have taken cognisance of an alleged assault incident involving an elderly Kashmiri Pandit couple in the Rajbagh area of Srinagar, leading to the arrest of the accused persons, officials said.

Official sources told news agency JKNS that upon receiving information, it was found that Vivek Batra, a dismissed former IRS officer, along with six associates, allegedly entered the residential premises of Ashok Toshkhanai and his wife Kusum and assaulted family members. The accused reportedly arrived in two vehicles and allegedly attempted to set the house on fire.

During the incident, several women sustained injuries and were shifted to a hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable, the official said.

Police acted swiftly and arrested the accused persons, registering a case under relevant sections of law. Further investigation into the matter is underway, and authorities have assured that strict legal action will follow as per the outcome of the probe.

Officials also said that the main accused has been involved in multiple controversies in the past outside the Union Territory and was dismissed from service earlier in connection with serious misconduct cases.

However, police maintained that the present case is being investigated strictly on the basis of facts and evidence. (JKNS)
