Srinagar, Jan 15 (JKNS): Cold wave conditions continued to grip Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday night as temperatures dipped well below the freezing point at most places, with Srinagar recording a minimum temperature of –3.9°C.
Data compiled by Kashmir Weather as per news agency JKNS, In the Kashmir region, Pulwama and Shopian emerged as the coldest places, both recording a low of –6.1°C. Other areas also witnessed sharp sub-zero temperatures, with Anantnag and Sopore settling at –5.7°C, Sonamarg at –5.8°C, and Pahalgam and Srinagar Airport each recording –5.0°C. Kupwara registered –4.9°C, Pampore –4.6°C, Awantipora and Budgam –4.8°C each, while Beerwah in Budgam recorded –5.2°C.
Tourist resort Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of –3.2°C, while Baramulla settled at –2.2°C, Bandipora at –2.7°C and Ganderbal at –2.6°C. Kokernag was relatively less cold at –1.1°C, while temperature data for Kulgam remained unavailable.
Meanwhile, the Jammu region witnessed comparatively milder weather conditions. Jammu city recorded a low of 4.4°C, while Jammu Airport registered 5.4°C. Katra recorded 6.8°C, Batote 4.9°C, Kathua and Poonch 4.4°C each, and Doda 4.7°C.
However, higher reaches of the Jammu region also experienced near-freezing temperatures, with Bhaderwah recording –0.1°C, Udhampur –0.4°C, and Rajouri 0.3°C. Banihal registered 1.9°C, Kishtwar 1.0°C, Ramban 2.6°C and Reasi 3.7°C, while temperature data for Samba was not available.
The prevailing cold conditions have intensified the winter chill across the Union Territory, particularly in the Kashmir Valley, as residents continue to grapple with harsh weather conditions during the peak winter period. (JKNS)
