Srinagar, Jan 15 (JKNS): As Iran has reopened its airspace for civilian traffic after a temporary closure amid escalating tensions, the first evacuation flight from Tehran to Delhi is scheduled to depart tomorrow on Friday morning.
Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) National Convenor Nasir Khuehami told news agency JKNS that all students have been duly registered and the Indian Embassy has already collected their personal details and passports.
“The first batch has been informed to remain ready by 8:00 AM tomorrow,” he said.
He added that Kashmiri students from Golestan University and a few students from SBUMS and Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) are most likely to be part of the first evacuation batch arriving in India.
“The final passenger list will be shared later tonight once it is formally confirmed by the authorities,” Khuehami said.
He said the development has brought much-needed relief to anxious Kashmiri students and their families, who have been under severe stress due to the deteriorating security situation in Iran. “We hope the evacuation process continues smoothly and safely for all remaining students in the coming days,” he added.
Earlier, parents of Kashmiri students stranded in Iran had sought immediate evacuation, repeatedly urging the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs to take swift steps in view of the worsening situation.
Several families had also approached local administrations and student bodies, expressing concern over the safety of their children and demanding urgent intervention for their safe return.
As reported earlier, around 3,000 Indians are currently stranded in Iran, of whom nearly 2,000 are Kashmiri students. —(JKNS)
