Srinagar, Jan 15 (JKNS): Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Thursday urged opposition parties to adopt a responsible and positive approach during the forthcoming budget session, expressing confidence that the proceedings would serve the larger interests of the Union Territory.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the session, as per news agency JKNS, Speaker Rather said the budget session holds great significance for Jammu and Kashmir and should be utilised to raise public issues and development-related matters in a constructive manner.

He noted that all members of the House possess sufficient experience to contribute meaningfully to legislative deliberations.

“The opposition has every right to question the government, but such scrutiny should be carried out in a healthy and constructive spirit,” Rather said, adding that constructive criticism plays a vital role in strengthening democratic institutions and improving governance.

He expressed hope that the session would witness smooth proceedings without disruptions, stressing that the Assembly must function as a platform for dignified debate, dialogue and resolution of issues concerning the people.

The Speaker further said that the budget session offers an important opportunity to deliberate on developmental priorities and address public concerns, adding that cooperation from all political parties is essential for the effective functioning of the House.

The remarks come ahead of the budget session, which is expected to witness key policy discussions and legislative business. —(JKNS).
