Republic Day: DGP J&K Takes Stock of South Kashmir Security, Calls for Enhanced Vigil

Anantnag, Jan 22 (JKNS): With Republic Day–2026 approaching, Director General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat (IPS), on Thursday chaired a comprehensive security review meeting at the District Police Office (DPO) Anantnag to assess the prevailing security situation and evaluate ongoing counter-terror operations across South Kashmir

DGP Prabhat chaired a comprehensive Security Review Meeting at the Conference Hall of the DPO Anantnag, to assess the prevailing security situation and review ongoing anti-terror operations in the districts of Anantnag, Kulgam and Police District Awantipora, ahead of Republic Day–2026, as per news agency JKNS.

The meeting was attended by Special DGP (Coordination) S.J.M. Gillani-IPS , IGP Kashmir Zone V.K. Birdi-IPS, DIG South Kashmir Range Javaid Iqbal Matoo-IPS, SSP Anantnag Amritpal Singh-IPS , SSP Kulgam Anayat Choudhary-IPS, SSP Awantipora Sajad Hussain Shah-JKPS along with other Gazetted Officers and SHOs from Districts Anantnag, Kulgam and PD Awantipora.

During the meeting, the DGP J&K conducted a detailed review of law and order management, counter-terrorism preparedness, crime control measures, and security arrangements for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.

He stressed the need for heightened alertness, foolproof security planning, intensified area domination, and strong intelligence-based operations to ensure peaceful and incident-free Republic Day celebrations.

Addressing the officers, the DGP J&K issued clear directions to deal firmly and decisively with anti-national elements posing threats to public safety, peace, and tranquility.

He reiterated zero tolerance towards activities inimical to national security and emphasized the importance of sustained and focused operations against such elements.

The DGP also urged officers to maintain a people-friendly policing approach, while continuing to work with dedication, professionalism, and commitment to uphold the rule of law and ensure a safe and secure environment for the citizens. (JKNS)
