Srinagar, Jan 24 (JKNS): One person was injured after a fire broke out at a guest house located near Dal Lake, opposite Ghat No. 1, in Srinagar on Saturday morning, officials said.

Officials told news agency Jammu and Kashmir News Service (JKNS) that a fire call was received at the State Fire Control Room, Batamaloo, at around 8:41 am, following which teams from Fire Station Nehru Park rushed to the spot. Due to congestion in the area, additional firefighting units were pressed into service from Fire and Emergency Services Headquarters, Fire Station Babdemb and Fire Station Rainawari.

They said the fire engulfed a three-storeyed guest house identified as “Dal Fog,” causing extensive damage to the structure. Firefighting operations were launched immediately and the blaze was brought under control within a short time, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.

According to officials, preliminary investigation has ruled out a short circuit as the cause of the fire, while further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact reason. The Special Dog Squad of Fire and Emergency Services was also deployed to check for the presence of any bodies or inflammable material inside the building.

The firefighting operation was led by DFO Headquarters Muzaffar Ali Bhat under the supervision of Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Dr Mir Aqib Hussain, along with Mobilizing Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah.

Meanwhile, ADGP Fire and Emergency Services Alok Kumar (IPS) urged the public to strictly adhere to fire safety norms and avoid leaving electrical appliances unattended, particularly during peak hours. Officials confirmed that one person sustained injuries in the incident, while no loss of life was reported. (JKNS)
