Tangmarg, Jan 24 (JKNS): A day after fresh snowfall, residents of several villages in Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district continue to remain cut off, alleging that no snow clearance or electricity restoration work has been carried out so far.
Locals told news agency JKNS that interior roads leading to multiple villages are still buried under snow, severely affecting movement and access to essential services. They alleged that prolonged power outages have further compounded their hardships, especially for elderly people, children and patients.
“We have been completely cut off since yesterday. Roads are blocked and there is no electricity. Patients and school-going children are suffering badly,” said Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Tangmarg.
Echoing similar concerns, another local, Sartaj Gulzar, said that despite repeated appeals, no relief has reached the interior villages so far. “Authorities make claims every year, but on the ground there is no immediate response. We are struggling for basic necessities,” he said.
Residents urged the concerned authorities to expedite snow clearance operations and restore electricity supply at the earliest to bring relief to the affected areas. They warned that continued delay could worsen the situation, particularly if weather conditions deteriorate further.
Officials, however, said that restoration and snow clearance work is underway and assured that affected villages will be reconnected as soon as possible. (JKNS)
