Srinagar, Jan 25 (JKNS): As many as 982 personnel from Police, Fire Services, Home Guard & Civil Defence (HG&CD) and Correctional Services have been awarded Gallantry and Service Medals on the occasion of Republic Day 2026, in recognition of their courage, dedication and exemplary service to the nation.
In a statement issued by government as per news agency JKNS, a total of 125 Medal for Gallantry (GM) have been awarded, including 121 to Police personnel and four to Fire Service personnel. The Gallantry Medals are conferred for rare and conspicuous acts of bravery in saving lives and property, preventing crime or arresting criminals while performing official duties. Among the awardees, 45 personnel belong to Jammu and Kashmir, 35 from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, five from the North-East and 40 from other regions of the country.
In addition, Service Medals were also announced. A total of 101 President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) were awarded, including 89 to Police Service, five to Fire Service, three to Civil Defence & Home Guard Service and four to Correctional Services. Further, 756 Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) were conferred, with 664 going to Police personnel, 34 to Fire Service, 33 to Civil Defence & Home Guard Service and 25 to Correctional Services.
The awards honour the unwavering commitment, professionalism and selfless service of personnel who have contributed significantly to maintaining internal security, public safety and effective service delivery across the country. (JKNS)
