Srinagar, Jan 25 (JKNS): National Voters’ Day was observed on 25th January at the Town Hall, Kokernag, in a programme aimed at reinforcing democratic values and encouraging informed electoral participation.

As per news agency JKNS, Prince Kumar, IAS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Kokernag and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), Kokernag Constituency, interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and voters during the programme. In his address, he spoke on the importance of voting as the foundation of democracy, stressing that while the right to vote is constitutionally guaranteed, its exercise is also a moral and civic responsibility of every citizen.

The SDM particularly appreciated the role of Booth Level Officers, describing them as the first and most trusted link between the Election Commission and the voter. He acknowledged their sustained field-level efforts in maintaining accurate electoral rolls and ensuring that no eligible voter is left out of the democratic process.

Highlighting that elections are a celebration of democracy, he encouraged citizens to view participation in elections not merely as an obligation, but as an active contribution to nation-building. He urged voters to participate responsibly, independently, and without fear or inducement.

On the occasion, a Voters’ Pledge was administered, reaffirming collective commitment to democratic principles, ethical voting, and informed participation.

To recognise dedication and sincere work at the grassroots level, Best BLO Awards were conferred upon selected Booth Level Officers for their commendable performance in electoral duties.

The programme concluded with a shared resolve among the administration, BLOs, and voters to continue strengthening democratic practices in the Kokernag Sub-Division. (JKNS)
