Srinagar, Jan 25 (JKNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, on Sunday highlighted the inspiring anti-drug initiative from Sheikhgund village of Anantnag district in south Kashmir, appreciating the collective efforts of villagers in curbing substance abuse.

As per news agency JKNS, Referring specifically to Anantnag, the Prime Minister said that Sheikhgund village had been grappling with rising challenges related to drugs, tobacco, cigarettes and alcohol. He noted that a resident of the village, Mir Jafar, took the lead after feeling deeply troubled by the growing menace.

“He united everyone in the village from the youth to the elders to confront this serious problem,” the Prime Minister said, adding that the collective resolve brought about a remarkable change on the ground.

The Prime Minister said the impact of the initiative was so strong that shops in the village stopped selling tobacco products altogether, while awareness about the harmful effects of drugs spread rapidly among residents.

Highlighting the power of community and family bonds, the Prime Minister said such examples from places like Anantnag show that social unity can overcome even the most difficult challenges.

The Prime Minister’s mention of Sheikhgund village and Mir Jafar’s efforts has drawn attention to grassroots movements in Kashmir aimed at fighting drug abuse through collective responsibility and social awareness. —(JKNS)
