Jammu, Jan 28 (JKNS): Dr. Rattan Lal Sharma, a renowned Dogri scholar and Editor (Dogri Language) at the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, has been conferred the UT Award on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day celebrations in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Dogri language, literature, translation, and linguistic research.
Dr. Sharma, popularly known by his pen name Dr. Rattan Basotra, has played a significant role in promoting and enriching the Dogri language through his scholarly writings, translations, editorial work, and research. A Gold Medalist in M.A. Dogri and a PhD holder in Dogri Linguistics, he has authored, edited, and translated numerous important literary works, including dictionaries, research publications, and creative translations from Hindi, Marathi, and Dogri.
His translation of “Satisare Di Kahani” into Dogri was awarded by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, highlighting his excellence in the field of literary translation.
Dr. Sharma has edited 108 books under various prestigious publications of the Cultural Academy, including Sheeraza Dogri, Sheeraza Hindi, Dogri Folk Songs, and Dogri Lok Kathane. He has also served as an editorial advisor to reputed Dogri research magazines.
On the occasion, employees of the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages extended their congratulations to Dr. Rattan Lal Sharma and wished him continued success in his literary and academic pursuits. They expressed hope that his scholarship and dedication would continue to inspire young writers and researchers while strengthening Dogri language and literature. —(JKNS)
