Kupwara, Feb 6: A general meeting of lecturers of District Kupwara, including members of the Election Commission, was held at BHSS Kupwara on 03-02-2026 at 2:00 PM. Representatives from a large number of Higher Secondary Schools across the district participated in the meeting.
The meeting was convened to examine and review the election process conducted by the Election Commission for the Presidential election of the J&K Lecturers Forum, District Kupwara. During the session, Returning Officer Mr. B. A. Malik and Assistant Returning Officer Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Hamdani presented a detailed note on the entire election exercise before the Commission and institutional representatives. The detailed remarks of the RO and ARO were appended with the proceedings.
Participants appreciated and hailed the efforts of RO Mr. B. A. Malik and ARO Mr. Zahoor Ahmad Hamdani for conducting the election process in a disciplined and transparent manner. The Election Commission Head, Mr. Mohammad Aslam Masoodi, was also congratulated for his effective supervision of the entire process.
In light of the declaration made by the RO and ARO, it was informed that one presidential candidate, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Dar, Lecturer Mathematics, BHSS Trehgam, remained unopposed after the withdrawal of nomination by the other candidate, Mr. Masood Ahmad Shah, Lecturer BHSS Kukroosa, on 29 January 2026. Consequently, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Dar was declared the winning candidate for the post of President of J&K Lecturers Forum, District Kupwara, without the need for polling scheduled on 09-02-2026.
Following the declaration, the Election Commission gave its nod for the formation of the new body of the Lecturers Forum Kupwara. Commission Head Mr. Mohammad Aslam Masoodi formally dissolved the Election Commission, stating that the election process had been completed successfully.
The newly constituted body of the Lecturers Forum Kupwara includes Mr. Ghulam Hassan Dar as President, with a full team of office bearers, advisory council members, and zonal in-charges representing different zones of the district. The arrangements for the oath ceremony of the President and the entire council will be carried out by a committee comprising Mr. G. A. Bhat, Mr. B. A. Malik, and Mr. Z. A. Hamdani.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing hope that the new leadership would work collectively for the welfare and professional development of lecturers across District Kupwara.
