Srinagar, Feb 6 (JKNS): The press delegation from Srinagar, which is o a visit to the National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST) in Kerala on Friday, witnessing firsthand India’s strides in cutting-edge scientific research with societal impact.

 

As per news agency JKNS, The visit was part of an ongoing media tour organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar.

 

CSIR-NIIST, operating, as per the news agency JKNS under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India, has earned recognition for its pioneering work in photochemistry, chemical-bioscience confluence, advanced materials, bioprocesses, agro-processing and value addition to region-specific natural resources.

 

The delegation also engaged with key scientists, beginning with a keynote address by Dr. C. Anandharamakrishna, Director, CSIR-NIIST, who outlined the institute’s mission of blending rigorous research with societal benefits.

 

Dr. U.S. Hareesh, Chief Scientist and Head of the Chemical Sciences and Technology Division, led the team through the institute’s museum and laboratories, demonstrating innovative technologies and sustainable solutions.

 

The visit stressed how scientific innovation can be tailored to regional resources, creating practical applications in agriculture, bio-products and advanced materials, while inspiring media professionals to communicate these breakthroughs effectively.

 

Delegates also balanced professional engagements with personal time, including Friday prayers and lunch, before departing for further explorations. The tour aims to strengthen media understanding of India’s research ecosystem and highlight the societal relevance of scientific advancements.—(JKNS)
