J&K Police in Shopian Solve Theft Case Within Hours; Accused Arrested

Shopian, Feb 9 (JKNS): Demonstrating its commitment to swift investigation and decisive action against crime, Shopian Police have solved a theft case within hours of its registration, leading to the arrest of an accused person and recovery of stolen property.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, On 08.02.2026, Police Station Shopian received a written complaint from Mohd Altaf Wani S/o Ghulam Hassan Wani R/o Dashipora, Shopian, proprietor of a mobile shop namely M/S “Mobile World”, located at Hospital Road, Shopian. The complainant reported that during the intervening night of 07/08.02.2026, unknown miscreants broke into his shop and decamped with mobile phones and other mobile accessories.
Taking immediate cognizance of the matter, FIR No. 08/2026 under relevant provisions of law was registered, and investigation was taken up without delay. Leveraging technical inputs and sustained investigative efforts, the police team successfully traced and apprehended one accused identified as Umar Akbar Malik R/o Khasipora, Shopian.
During investigation, on his disclosure, 05 mobile phones, 01 tablet, 01 Apple Watch, and other mobile accessories were recovered.
It has also come to the fore during investigation that one associate of the accused, who is a juvenile, was also involved in the commission of the offence. In view of legal provisions, the identity of the juvenile has been withheld, and necessary action has been initiated as per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway to ascertain any additional involvement.
