Srinagar, Feb 10 (JKNS): A major fire incident in Srinagar’s Habbakadal area left six residential houses damaged and three persons injured, including a firefighter, officials said on Wednesday.
An official told news agency JKNS that the State Fire Control Room received a distress call at around 10:32 PM, after which fire tenders from Habakadal, Babdem, Gowkadal, Headquarters and Syed Hameed Pora were immediately dispatched to the site.
“Due to the densely populated surroundings, additional fire units from Maharaj Gunj, Rainawari, Safakadal, Rawalpora, Nowshhera and Nowgam were also mobilised to prevent the flames from spreading,” the official said.
During the operation, a fire service personnel sustained grievous injuries to his hand and was shifted to hospital for treatment. Two civilians also suffered injuries in the incident and were taken for medical care.
Officials said that nearly two to three LPG cylinders exploded amid the blaze, causing damage to six houses, mostly restricted to their attic sections.
The firefighting and rescue operation was monitored on the ground by Deputy Director Fire & Emergency Services Dr. Mir Aqib Hussain, while other senior officers coordinated efforts to ensure swift response and mobility.
Meanwhile, ADGP Alok Kumar advised residents to remain vigilant while handling electrical gadgets and LPG cylinders to avert such mishaps.
The exact cause of the fire is being investigated. — (JKNS)
