Jammu, Feb 13 (JKNS): Former Forest Minister and former MLA from Devsar, Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah, passed away in Jammu on Friday afternoon following a prolonged illness.
He had been under medical treatment for some time and breathed his last in the winter capital, family sources told news agency JKNS.
Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah was regarded as a seasoned political leader from the Devsar constituency and was known for his accessibility to the public and active role in social and political matters of the area. During his term as MLA, he focused on developmental works and issues concerning public welfare in his constituency.
As Forest Minister, he was associated with several initiatives related to forest conservation, environmental safeguards and administrative functioning of the department.
He was the uncle of the sitting MLA from Devsar, Peerzada Feroze Ahmad Shah. Following the news of his demise, political leaders, party workers and residents across the constituency and adjoining areas expressed grief and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed sorrow over his passing.
In a post on X, the Office of the J&K Chief Minister said that the Chief Minister has expressed deep grief over the demise of former Minister Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah.
The Chief Minister remembered his contributions to public life and service to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and conveyed heartfelt condolences to his family, the post added. (JKNS)
