Srinagar, Feb 14 (JKNS): Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, on Saturday said that the Government of India is directly and indirectly funding several major infrastructure projects aimed at upgrading civic amenities and easing traffic congestion in the city.
Speaking to news wire ANI, as per news agency JKNS DC Labroo said, “The Government of India is directly and indirectly funding infrastructure upgrades in Srinagar. We recently conducted a field visit to a vehicular underpass near Mominabad and Nowgam Railway Station. The Government of India has approved the design, and the final design has been finalised.”
He further stated that a foot overbridge will be constructed at Children’s Hospital, Bemina. “Surveys and field inspections have begun with the assistance of the Government of India. The project has been approved, and work on these projects will begin very soon. These three projects will help decongest the city’s traffic and improve connectivity,” he said.
Highlighting other initiatives, the DC said that the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) is being implemented by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and is a major funding source for several urban projects. “At Sonarcol, we have proposed an alternative route behind SMHS Hospital to support our health infrastructure, including SMHS, the Super Speciality Hospital and the Government Medical College. We have begun this through Government of India funds in convergence with NCAP,” he added.
Labroo also urged senior citizens aged 70 and above to avail benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY). “Just like the Ayushman Bharat Golden Card, you will be issued a card and can access benefits of ₹5 lakh plus an additional ₹5 lakh in the medical sector,” he said.
He added that the recently completed Sanath Nagar project, where vehicular movement has been permitted, was also funded by the Government of India. “On the city’s periphery, the Srinagar Ring Road Phase-1, connecting surrounding districts and South Kashmir, is also a Government of India and NHAI project. Work is underway on Phase-2 as well. When all these projects are implemented together, the city’s traffic will gradually be decongested and its infrastructure upgraded,” he said. — (JKNS)
